I felt like our lives had stopped, and we didn’t know how to act. As the older brother, I felt I had to be strong and help him, but I didn’t know where to start. My brother is quiet and doesn't like to complain, and I didn’t know how to bring up the subject without pressuring him. When I joined the workshops, my perspective changed. I learned that support is not just words; sometimes, just being there without intervening is enough. I started listening to him instead of talking, and tried to be there for him every step of the way. Even small moments, like having coffee or walking together, meant a lot to him. "Ma'ak" taught me that support doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be genuine presence. Thanks to them, I was able to help him and help myself too."
"I always saw myself as strong. Whatever I went through, I tried to solve it on my own and didn’t want to bother anyone. When I was diagnosed with lymphoma, I tried to do the same, but after a while, I felt like I was drowning alone. I needed someone to listen to me, but I was hesitant to ask for help and didn’t want to burden my family more than they already were. When I attended my first session, I was scared and didn’t know if I would be able to talk. But when I saw people like me speaking honestly, I felt a strange sense of courage. I began to share my fears, my exhaustion, and even the moments I cried alone at night. From then, I learned how to talk, and when I opened up to my family and friends, they understood me more, and their presence became a source of strength for me. The support I received made me feel like I wasn’t alone. Today, after completing my treatment journey, I tell anyone: don’t keep your feelings bottled up. Asking for help is not weakness; it’s the first step toward strength."
"The day the doctor told me 'You have breast cancer,' I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I saw my children in front of me and imagined their lives without me. What scared me most was the unknown: the treatment, the pain, and the ending that I didn’t know how it would be. From the first support session I attended with 'Ma'ak,' I felt a different kind of feeling. I heard stories from people who went through the same experience and felt the same fear I had. One of them said something I’ll never forget: 'Every small step you take is part of a long journey, and all of it is worth it.' Since then, I decided to focus on my day instead of being afraid of tomorrow. I learned to write my journal, release everything I feel, and use simple techniques like deep breathing when I felt overwhelmed. Today, I can say that the community I found at Ma'ak was my second family, who made me feel that I could face it."
"My mom was always my pillar, the woman who never wavered. When she got cancer, I felt like everything in our lives turned upside down. I saw her trying to hide her pain so we wouldn’t worry, and I was lost, not knowing how to help her. The consultations I had with Ma'ak were like the compass I needed. I learned that the patient doesn’t need advice as much as they need someone to listen and understand. I started helping her with small things, like organizing her day, or even just sitting with her to do simple things, like going to the kitchen and making a meal she liked. Those small moments of joy made a big difference. Today, even though she is well, thank God, she says that our presence next to her was stronger than the treatment itself. And I say: Thank you, 'Ma'ak,' for allowing us to be part of the solution."
"I was a social person, I loved being around people. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I suddenly felt very alone. I saw my family trying to comfort me, but I didn’t feel like anyone around me understood what I was going through. When I joined the support groups at 'Ma'ak,' I felt something I didn’t expect. For the first time, I was able to talk with people who were going through the same experience. Their advice was practical and full of sincerity, like when they told me, 'If you're tired, it’s okay to rest, you don’t have to be strong all the time.' Their presence with me was like a lifeline in the sea of loneliness and fear. Today, I am recovered, and I try to be the same support for anyone going through this experience."
"If you are going through cancer, I tell you: Don’t be afraid. We all felt the same fear and sadness, but when you find people who understand you and support you, this hard road becomes less daunting. 'Ma'ak' were the family I didn’t know I needed. I learned from them that strength isn’t about facing it alone; strength is knowing how to ask for help when you need it. Don’t give up, and with your faith in yourself and the support of the people who love you, you will reach the end you deserve."
